School Careers Programme
Our school careers programme includes a structured, planned classroom-based programme. This programme is delivered through PSHCE lessons.
The aims of the careers programme are to:
- Promote increasing self-awareness in pupils
- Promote increasing awareness of opportunities in our society on the basis of equal opportunities for all
- Develop the skill of being able to make informed and relevant decisions

In addition to this, all students take part in a careers in the curriculum week and will access specific assemblies.
- Year 7 – The World of Work
- Year 8 – Learning about skills for the future
- Year 9 – Careers and GCSE options
- Year 10 – Jobs for the future
- Year 11 – Routes after GCSE
- Year 12 – Meeting the needs of labour market developments
All students also receive a presentation from each subject area they study, highlighting possible careers routes and the skills and qualifications required.
Assessing our careers programme
The impact of our careers programme is monitored and assessed in the following ways:
- Termly through the Careers and Enterprise Compass tool (next assessment November 2022)
- Quality in Careers Standard Award (next assessment Spring 2023)
- Careers Advisers Activity Survey (including NEET and destinations data)
- Annual report detailing impact of the careers provision, including evaluations from mock interviews
- Auditing of schemes of work to ensure they are relevant and reflect current issues
Our careers programme assessment allows us to evaluate our careers programme against the eight Gatsby Benchmarks:
